Descriptions
Offers assistance to families with school-age children to buy groceries during the summer when kids might not have access to school meals. SUN Bucks are put on an EBT card. Each eligible child will get one card with $120 to buy groceries - $40 per month for June, July, and August. Cards can be used to purchase food at most grocery stores, farmer's markets, and other authorized retailers, including online at stores such as Amazon and Walmart.
SUN Bucks cannot be used for hot foods, pet foods, cleaning or household supplies, personal hygiene items, or medicine.
SUN Bucks must be used within 122 days of funds being loaded. Any unused money after 122 days will expire. Expired benefits cannot be replaced or put back on your card.
Eligibility
-Children ages 6-18 years who get CalFresh, CalWORKs, or Medi-Cal (certified at or under 185% of the Federal Poverty Level).
-Children ages 0-22 years who attend a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or the School Breakfast Program (SBP) and are determined eligible for free or reduced-price meals based on a school meal application or Alternative Income Form.
-Also, children who are attending Head Start, experiencing homelessness, living in foster care or part of a migrant family are also eligible.
Application Process
If your child is already determined eligible for free or reduced-price meals for the 2024 school year, your child will be automatically enrolled and no action is needed.
